Winemaking notes
Harvest date is determined by very regular ripeness monitoring and berry tasting. Hand-harvested with utmost care whole clusters are placed in vats. After a few days of maceration, fermentation begins spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Extraction relies primarily on gentle punch-downs, favouring finesse over power. Pressed in a vertical press, then aged 18 months in large foudres.
Viticultural notes
Grenache Noir and Syrah from the Domaine des Tourelles vineyard, situated below the village of Gigondas. The estate features a north-west facing "clos" directly adjacent to the property, benefiting from a cool microclimate that allows for late harvesting. Limestone soils with a distinctive sandy-marl matrix particularly evident within the clos. The 2021 vintage a classic "winemaker's year" defined by freshness demanded total commitment from teams
Tasting notes
Elegant deep cherry black, profound and intense. Of great complexity, the nose reveals a superb aromatic bouquet of garrigue and blueberry, delicately underscored by a hint of Timut pepper and fine ashy notes. On the palate, this refinement continues with great finesse a rich and dense structure elevated by silky tannins and savoury aromas of dark fruit, noble leather and violet.
Rated 94/100 by James Suckling (2023).
Pairing notes
Serve at 16 °C in large Burgundy glasses. A natural match for roast lamb, veal with mushrooms, game and aged cheeses. A model of elegance and refinement with exceptional ageing potential of 12 to 18 years.
