Winemaking notes
Cold pre-fermentation maceration to bring out the fruit flavors. This is followed by maceration and fermentation for about 20 days, with pumping over during the first few days and punching down toward the end. Aged in truncated cone-shaped tanks and demi-muids for 10 months.
Viticultural notes
The terroir consists, to the north, of granite-rich hillsides similar to those of Hermitage, while to the south, the soils are predominantly alluvial, with a few terraces of pebbles carried there by the Rhône. The vineyards face due south on the hillsides, and the mistral blows there regularly. Crozes Hermitage Maison les Alexandrins comes primarily from vines planted in the alluvial plain.
Tasting notes
A beautiful deep purple color with brilliant highlights. Precise and aromatic, the nose is typical of a Syrah grown on the stony plains of Crozes-Hermitage, with notes of red and black berries and pepper. Deliciously rich on the palate, it offers a silky tannic structure and lovely, approachable red fruit aromas. A wine of great elegance.
