Pittacum wines are the result of generations of know-how and an understanding of the Bierzo wine-growing region. One man, Alfredo Marqués, oversees all 190 parcels spread over 45 hectares, and tends to the century-old, authentically Atlantic vines. The result is a truly outstanding Mencía variety.

THE VINES

The region benefits from a very unique microclimate: mild, calm, and rather cool. It also boasts a dry environment that allows us to maintain a distinctive hydric balance. Late frosts are rare.

THE SOIL

THE SOIL

In the mountainous areas, the soil is a mix of quartzite and limestone, while the valley benefits from the hillside deposits. Vines in the Bierzo region grow on dark, humid, and slightly acidic soil.

VINIFICATION AND AGING

The grapes undergo a double selection. Throughout the entire transformation process, we’re committed to respecting the source material to the max. During the maceration period, the wines are tasted on a daily basis.
