Winemaking notes
‘Private Collection’ features a truly exceptional and unique range of greatly aged single malts from a mixture of celebrated, little-known and now closed distilleries across Scotland. Personally selected by members of the Urquhart family, owners of Gordon & MacPhail, each release in our 'Private Collection' is a unique and exquisite chapter in Scotland's history of whisky.
Viticultural notes
This exceptional whisky comes from our last cask laid down in the 1940s from Milton Distillery, known today as Strathisla. This is the oldest ever single malt that will ever carry the Milton Distillery name. Matured in our own cask, the 72-Year-Old Gordon & MacPhail 1949 from Milton Distillery is exceedingly rare, with only 180 bottles available worldwide.
Tasting notes
Described by renowned whisky writer Gavin D. Smith as “gloriously drinkable”. Sherry influences on the nose intertwine with sweet vanilla pod and Seville orange. Stewed forest fruit aromas give way to vibrant festive spice and soft lemon zest. Flavours of butterscotch give way to bright citrus and nutmeg. Baked apple notes come to the fore alongside poached pear and honeycomb. A long finish with lingering apple, dark toffee and subtle smoke.
