Reserva Especial 2017

Vinified at Quinta da Leda from estate and neighbouring high-altitude vineyards in the Douro Superior. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats with a long, temperature-controlled maceration ensuring optimal extraction. Matured for 18 months in French oak barrels (75% new, 25% second-use). The final blend is crafted through rigorous selection of the best lots and barrels.

A blend of Touriga Francesa (48%), Touriga Nacional (35%), Sousão (7%), Tinta Roriz (5%) and Tinto Cão (5%) from schist soils in DOC Douro. The 2017 vintage was markedly hot and dry temperatures around 5°C above normal with less than half the usual rainfall. One of the earliest harvests on record, beginning August 22nd. Sustainable Integrated Production certified by OILB/IOBC.

Deep ruby in colour. The nose delivers outstanding intensity and complexity: ripe red and black fruit, cocoa and chocolate, truffle and sous-bois, subtle spices of pepper and clove, a stony mineral character and very well-integrated oak. The palate offers excellent volume with firm, high-quality tannins, well-integrated acidity and a pronounced black fruit and spice character. The finish is exceptionally long and powerful.

Serve between 16–18 °C after decanting for at least 1 to 2 hours. Keep the bottle upright for 24 hours before opening to allow any natural sediment to settle. Optimal drinking window: 8 to 10 years from harvest. A natural match for aged cheeses, roasted red meats and game. Consume within 24 hours of opening.
