Estate Chardonnay 2022

Chalone Vineyard experienced a compressed harvest in 2022, which began in late August and ended in the first week of October. A cool growing season included only a few warm days with little or no rainfall, which put stress on the vines; producing fruit with lower acidity and optimal ripeness. 12 months in 40% new French oak barrels.

The Chardonnay comes from some of our oldest vineyard sites, including grapes planted in 1972 and a 1985 plantation that was grafted using scions from vines planted in 1946. The age of our vines gives our Chardonnay wines their intense, premium flavors. Estate Chardonnay 2022 comes from Chalone Vineyard's Reservoir, Vista, MacWood and Strip vineyards.

Estate Chardonnay 2022 opens with notes of toasted brioche and Meyer lemon, then unfolds notes of vanilla cream soda and slate rock minerality. These flavors carry through to the palate, which offers a broad, luxurious mouthfeel with buttery oak character balanced by lively acidity and a spicy, elegant finish.
