Winemaking notes
A whisky for lovers of complex, multi-layered peaty whiskies. What makes it fit perfectly into the COMPASS BOX house style is the balance of richness and subtle sweetness that the casks of Highland malt provide to the smoky-peaty malts of Islay. This is the great benefit of combining single malts from different distilleries; we are not limited to the produce of one distillery. Like a winemaker blending grape varieties, we can create layers of complexity. PEAT MONSTER in its new livery retains the smoky intensity whilst creating a depth and elegance not seen before. To it’s original exuberant and elemental character an oilier and creamier style has been added.
Viticultural notes
Made from a marriage of two malts from Islay, one produced near the village of Port Askaig, the other from the South Shore.Bottled at 46%. Not chill-filtered. Natural colour.
Tasting notes
Peaty, smoky malt with hints of fruitiness; a balanced whisky with great depth and complexity. Gold Medal & Best in Category - World Whisky Awards 2020. 94 Points, Wine Enthusiast "A new version of this year-round bottling, this is a blended Scotch that showcases several Islay distilleries, with an eye toward “depth and elegance.” Look for a pale gold hue and a floral, grassy, salt-breezy aroma that reflects a delicate hint of peat smoke. The palate is more robust; think shovelfuls of peat, though it pulls back just short of the overwhelm point, allowing hints of vanilla sweetness and grassy freshness to peek through.”
Pairing notes
A fantastic late-night digestif whisky. Excellent with blue vein cheeses.
