Winemaking notes
After a mild winter, spring arrived with warm temperatures in March which engendered a quick growth of the vines. Summer was punctuated in July by several and quite long heat waves. Vineyards with a clay soil were less affected by the low level of rainfalls during spring and by the summer heat. The harvest in Burgundy started around August 20, which was historically early for the region. At Chanson, they started on August 24 under a bright sunshine. 2020 red wines are generous, concentrated and beautifully terroir-driven.
Viticultural notes
"Les Marconnets" are located at the northern tip of the Beaune 1er Cru Appellation. The name of this vineyard referred to the German tribe of "Marcomans". Chanson owns 4 ha or 40% of the vineyard. Calcareous soil with clay.
Tasting notes
Garnet colour. Intense aromas of ripe red berries mixed with liquorice and a hint of vanilla. Complex, with a meaty texture; very pure fruit. Well formed tannins. Long and spicy finish.
Pairing notes
To be enjoyed with white or red meat, grilled or roasted, games and all sorts of cheeses especially all the cheeses produces in Burgundy (Epoisses, Langres, Citeaux, Ami du Chambertin).
