Viticultural notes
Phil Lane Vineyard (100%) Located in the Walla Walla Valley, K’s first estate vineyard and part of the original homestead property. Soil composition consists of Yakima cobbler loam in the ancient riverbed. This well-drained site is part of the Mill Creek drainage system, resulting in a cooler climate than other parts of the valley. The vines are trained very low to take advantage of the radiant heat provided by the large cobbles.
Tasting notes
Sometimes the mighty is found in small places. That is the case here: one acre of incredible Syrah in front of the original K Vintners home. Dark and opaque, refined and classic, this wine sings an incredible tune of black cherry, black plum, crushed river rock, and grilled herbs. A palate that is defined and focused – let it sit awhile to reflect and meditate on dried tobacco, dusty records, and the dim red lights of a late-night jazz club.
