Winemaking notes
Naturally dried in traditional lofts during the cold winter months using Masi’s patented Appaxximento method. Extended fermentation over 45 days, malolactic fermentation, then prolonged ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels. From the Grandi Annate Collection exceptional bottles preserved in the Cantina Privata Boscaini cellars.
Viticultural notes
The Campolongo di Torbe vineyard sits on southwest-facing terraced ridges between 375 and 400 metres above sea level in the Negrar valley, on deep, well-drained red ferrous volcanic limestone soils. The 2007 vintage in Valpolicella benefited from a hot, dry summer followed by an ideal autumn, producing grapes of exceptional concentration and phenolic maturity perfect conditions for the appassimento process.
Tasting notes
Deep garnet red with still youthful violet highlights. The nose is intense and complex: black cherry preserve, blackberry, prunes and figs intertwine with notes of dark chocolate, tobacco, leather and oriental spices. The palate is powerful, full and velvety, with melted tannins and a fresh acidity that beautifully balances the wine’s richness. The 2007 is a great vintage that, particularly for Campolongo di Torbe, can develop for over 30 years without any problem in a good cellar. The finish is extraordinarily long and persistent.
Pairing notes
Serve at 18–20 °C after decanting for a minimum of 2 hours. Outstanding with braised meats, feathered and furred game, black truffles and bold aged cheeses. A collector’s bottle still on the rise. Best enjoyed through 2037 and beyond.
