Winemaking notes
70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 5% Molinara. 24 months with 80% aged in Slavonian oak barrels of 40-80 hl and 20% in small Allier and Slavonian oak barrels (40% new, 30% second usage, 30% third usage). The wine is then bottle-aged for a minimum of 4 months. Ageing potential 30-35 years.
Viticultural notes
Winter snows and spring showers in early 2009 promoted normal growth with the vines. Temperatures were above average until the end of September, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and healthily, and harvesting to take place 10 days earlier than normal. Sharp drops in temperature at the beginning of September and good diurnal temperature variations led to excellent aromatic qualities in Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes.
Tasting notes
Vibrant ruby red with violet tinged edges. Intense and attractive bouquet with hints of cherry conserve and plum jam with a deft spicy touch of cinnamon. Soft and delicate tannins on the palate with an attractive touch of sweetness to give delightful mouthfeel. Well-balanced with warming alcohol and excellent acidity. Long and intense on the finish with good fruitiness and sweet spiciness.
Pairing notes
Amarone is a full-bodied wine for grilled or roasted red meats, game, and strong tasty cheeses, such as parmesan. Generally considered a wine for meditation, it is a great after-dinner wine. Recommended drinking temperature 20°C (68° F).
