Winemaking notes
This 10 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey is made featuring the highest quality American corn with over 10 years of ageing. Fire-charred, new American white oak barrels were used. This very limited edition Age Statement is a unique attribute reflecting the extraordinary commitment to quality and patience. By law, all Bourbon Whiskey is made in America from a mash of at least 51 percent corn and distilled to no more than 160 U.S. proof (80% abv).
Viticultural notes
Michter's has three locations in Kentucky - a 78,000 square foot distillery in the Shively section of Louisville, the architecturally significant Fort Nelson Building on Louisville's Museum Row and 145 acres of farm land in Springfield.
Tasting notes
The nose opens complex with deep caramel, earthy white pepper, red fruit, dark cherries, baking spices, herbaceous barrel smoke, and a hint of toasted oak. The palate is viscous, opening with earthy caramelised nuts, dark cherries, earthy rye spice and a faint dark chocolate, and slightly bitter old herbaceous oak in the back. The finish opens with a kick of spice, burnt caramelized nuts, faint red fruit, tannic oak smoke and dark cherries. 96 Points Whisky Bible - "Truly classic bourbon nose: thick liquorice and blood orange, then you are placed on immediate full kumquat alert as the citrus notes bore down on the tastebuds. Soft red liquorice and molasses ensures the sweeter side of things stay pristine. Beautifully made.”
Pairing notes
Ideally to be enjoyed neat to experience all the nuances of extended ageing.
