Winemaking notes
The grapes come exclusively from the unique Gontelho terroir. In keeping with the estate’s tradition dating back to 1816, fermentation is carried out with partial destemming and 100% foot-treading in traditional lagares, a historic Douro method that ensures gentle, even extraction. Ageing begins with several months resting in tank, followed by 33 months in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to refine its structure and gain depth.
Viticultural notes
Sourced from the heart of the Douro Valley, this wine is crafted from a traditional blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and a selection of old-vine parcels. The vineyards are farmed according to the region’s historic practices and rooted in the Douro’s emblematic schist soils, which bring natural concentration and freshness to the fruit. The age of some of the vines contributes added depth, authenticity, and typicity.
Tasting notes
The nose reveals floral aromas, ripe red fruits, vanilla, and sweet spices. The palate is fresh, fruit-forward, and well-balanced, offering fine complexity and a firm, defined structure. The long and harmonious finish reflects a wine that is both structured and generous, true to the estate’s elegant and distinctive style.
Pairing notes
This wine pairs beautifully with red meats, grilled dishes, braised or roasted preparations, and aged cheeses. It can be enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit expression or after a few years of ageing for added roundness and complexity.
