Winemaking notes
Born from a natural mutation discovered among the estate's Gamay Noir vines, Gamay Noir Droit holds international plant breeders' rights, making it exclusive to Château des Charmes. Vinified without oak ageing to let the fruit and terroir expression take centre stage, with temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks preserving full aromatic freshness.
Viticultural notes
Exclusive variety developed at Château des Charmes. Harvested October 6, 2022 from St. David's Bench VQA, Niagara. Its later ripening versus traditional Gamay allows for enhanced aromatic development.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby red. The nose opens on red cherry, ripe berries, warm spices and subtle smoky nuances. The palate is broader and more structured than a traditional Gamay, with distinctive richness and complexity. Supple tannins lead to a fresh, fruit-driven finish of elegant length.
Pairing notes
Serve between 14–16 °C. Pairs beautifully with grilled sausages, roast pork, barbecue, charcuterie, mushroom dishes and aged cheeses. A versatile, convivial red perfect for casual gatherings.
