Winemaking notes
Harvested by hand, carried by small trailers which unload the grapes by vibration to avoid crushing, then we use a sorting table to eliminate unripe or damaged grapes. Pneumatic winepress. Cool racking. Aging: 65% of the aging process is done in stainless vats 35% in barrels (90% in 1,2 and 3 years old barrels, 10% in new and 1 year old barrels) for a period of six months. Natural tartaric stabilisation after 12 months of aging.
Viticultural notes
The slopes, like those of all the Grands Crus vines, are located on the right bank of the Serein River, in the south exposure. The soil is made of kimmeridgien marl-calcium carbonate (upper Jurassic), and is very rocky with white, dense clays. Density plantation: 7000 vines/ha. Average age of the vines: between 40 and 65 years.
Tasting notes
Vinous Magazine - The Les Clos Grand Cru is airy and gracious - not unlike the Blanchot in feel - with added layers of textural richness and depth. Apricot, citrus confit, crushed rocks, oak and light tropical overtones add character to this beautifully layered, nuanced Clos. A Chablis of reserve and class.
