Winemaking notes
The Swartland region of South Africa is teeming with winemakers who are landing very old vines (well above 70 years) and making incredible wines as a result. This comes from winemakers Tania and Vincent Carême, natives of the Loire, who fell in love with the region and haven't looked back. Dry-farmed, mineral driven and full of delicious character.
Viticultural notes
Swartland, an emerging hotbed of quality wine producers, is to be put on your radar. Terre Brûlée (“burned earth”), from Vincent and Trina Carême of Dom. Vincent Carême in the Loire Valley’s Vouvray AOP, is making a beautiful imprint in this hot, arid District full of dry farmed, old Chenin Blanc vines. Hand harvested grapes, whole cluster pressing, indigenous yeasts, fermentation and lees aging in stainless steel, and use of new French oak.
Tasting notes
90 Points Wine Spectator - 2018, 2019 & 2020 Vintages. #65 on the Top 10 Wines of 2019. - Elegant, showing a gentle texture, with intense acidity giving energy to the flavors of yellow apple, lime and honeysuckle. Salty mineral elements emerge midpalate, leaving a savory aftertaste. *Smart Buy*
