Winemaking notes
This wine is composed from a blend of Chardonnay (98 %) and Gewurztraminer (2 %). 90% is barrel fermented in a combination of 60% new and 40% second use French and American oak and 10% is stainless steel fermented. The wine goes through further aging for 8 months sur-lie (on the lees), where the wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation.
Viticultural notes
Sourced exclusively from the Riva Ranch Vineyard in Arroyo Seco, Monterey. Arroyo Seco, where Wente has been growing grapes since the 1960’s, is widely regarded as one of the best places in California to grow Chardonnay. The long, cool growing season with the deep gravelly soil ripen the Chardonnay perfectly which gives natural balance of sugar and acidity.
Tasting notes
The wine opens with bold oak aromatics, complemented by rich tropical fruit such as pineapple to white nectarine and sweet baking spices on the palate, finishing with a round mouthfeel.
Pairing notes
Creamy risotto, chicken piccata, or movie theatre popcorn.
