Winemaking notes
With Compass Box commencing its third decade, it was only appropriate that Hedonism Felicitas should draw together three whiskies, each distilled in a different decade. The largest component is whisky from a distillery seldom seen at Compass Box: Strathclyde. Distilled in the 1980s, it has a graceful vanilla creaminess and orchard fruit intensity. Whisky from the North British Distillery, produced in the 1990s supplies passion fruit, cardamom and coconut while whisky distilled at the now closed Port Dundas Distillery in 2001 provides sweet wood spice, toffee and honey. We elected to bottle Hedonism Felicitas at 53% ABV to concentrate its luscious depths. However, there has been no loss of the disarming gentleness for which aged grain whisky is rightly praised

Tasting notes
Creaminess is immediately obvious with yoghurt and coconut. Impressions of caramel and vanilla intertwine before cardamom and almond notes appear. A delicious weight to the palate: full but lively. Flavours of muscovado sugar and sweet green fruits coat the tongue. A soft and gentle finish, packed with creamy toffee, slowly fades.
Pairing notes
Serve in a wide-bowled wine glass to experience the waves of creamy characteristics. Adding a single ice cube will slowly dilute the whisky, revealing toastier aromas and subtle fruitiness.
