Winemaking notes
NO NAME, NO. 2 is a riff on the black-aspitch original, released to much acclaim in 2017. Still very smoky indeed, the overall style is more refined. If NO NAME was peat as thrash metal, NO NAME, NO. 2 is in the progressive genre: still potent, yet cerebral too. We created this whisky by combining two famous peated single malt whiskies. The first hails from the Islay village of Port Askaig and has been matured in refill Sherry casks. The other was distilled on the Isle of Skye and aged in recharred hogsheads. To this we added some old and ethereal single malt whisky from the Northern Highland village of Brora – also aged in recharred hogsheads – and just a dash of malt whisky finished in new French oak to add an underlying richness.
Viticultural notes
Smoky single malt whiskies from the Caol Ila Distillery on Islay, and from the Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye. Fruity malt whisky from the Clynelish Distillery in the Northern Highlands. A proprietary blend of Highland malts, aged in French oak, typically from the distilleries of Clynelish, Teaninich and Dailuaine. Bottled at 48.9% Natural Colour Light 5 Micron Filtration Not Chill-Filtered Bottled February 2019
Tasting notes
Highly complex peatiness and smokiness, accented by delicate cherry fruit notes. Full and concentrated on the palate, an interplay of peaty flavours develops throughout the long, satisfying finish. 90 Points Whisky Advocate - So good, they didn’t name it twice. More brooding than the first iteration, with a heavy curtain of ashy sooty smoke, fresh herbal tones, lemon, and dried fruity sweetness. The palate is led by red cherry, plum, cranberry, and tangy orange peel, then hot smoke sets off a peppery firecracker. The structure is deceptively light, developing more grip as the lemon sherbet sweetness heralds the lengthy finish of beach bonfire smoke.
Pairing notes
Enjoy NO NAME, NO. 2 served neat in a wine glass to allow the smoke to billow.
