Winemaking notes
After a particularly mild winter, spring took over with summer temperatures in March and, as an immediate consequence, early budburst and very sustained vine growth. May began with a few frosts without significant consequences which quickly gave way to a nice mildness. June was hot with some rain and in the process, the summer was marked by several fairly long heat waves. On the plots made up of clay soils, the vines resisted the water stress better caused by the low accumulation of water between March and June and by the summer drought. The harvest in Burgundy began around August 20, a historically early date for the region. At Chanson, they began on August 24 under a blazing sun. The white wines of the 2020 vintage are full of energy and chiseled on a very beautiful aromatic framework of exotic fruits and yellow-fleshed fruits on notes of toasted bread.
Viticultural notes
This 1.90 hectare vineyard is ideally located halfway up the slope on a hillside near the Corton-Charlemagne vineyards. It has the same geology and is at the same altitude as its illustrious neighbour, but differs from it by its northern exposure. In summary: an exceptional terroir marked by intense minerality. Clay-limestone and stony.
Tasting notes
Pale gold color. Toasted notes on citrus aromas. Well balanced and complex. Precise structure. Very nice balance between the freshness of Pernand and the maturity of the 2020 vintage. Good persistence. Score: 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson - 90/100 Burghound
Pairing notes
Shellfish, pan-fried scallops, turbot with cream. Regional cheeses (Epoisses, citeaux) and Comté.
